Ancient fire ritual was staged to begin the Festivities of Cusco and the Inti Raymi 2016.
More than 200 actors on stage gave life to the ancient Inca ritual called ‘Willqa Nina‘ the same that was staged in the Temple of the Qorikancha to officially begin with the Feasts of Cusco.
Guided by the Inca, played by cusqueño player Nivardo Carrillo, musicians, priests and Inca warriors danced a ritual fire, whereby they asked the gods and apus (guardians) tutelary of Cusco, your permission, to begin the festivities in honor of the Imperial City.
The ceremony, held Wednesday night April 27, drew thousands of cusquenians and tourists, who enjoyed the magic, music and color, which occurred in the event developed by the Municipal Company of Festivities of the Cusco (EMUFEC), which used the occasion to launch the general program of the Festivities of Cusco, they already started and will be held during the months of May, June and July.
Considered one of the most lavish celebrations of Cusco, consists in the procession of 15 images of saints and virgins from the various parishes of Cusco, to greet the Body of Christ.
Multitudinous celebration held in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco, complemented by gastronomic traditions, being the Chiriuchu (cold picnic) representative dish religious holiday.
It is known that when the Spaniards arrived in Cusco, they saw the cult deities or mummies that were carried in procession was made by the Incas, reason for which they ended that manifestation considered pagan and inserted the place of the gods images of virgins and saints, thus was born this holiday. Today there are 15 images that come out in procession:

The Chiriuchu is an emblematic dish of the feast of Corpus Christi, this pottage dates from the time of the Incas and the colony, Chiriuchu meaning Chiri = cold and uchu = chili pepper. This plate has the ingredients as boiled chicken, bakedcuy, charqui or chalona, accompanied with delicious tortillas or flour fritters, roasted corn, cheese, sausage, seaweed (algae), chorizo and egg cups fish or “cau cau” and for those who like spicy, infaltable hot pepper is present.
The Inti Raymi or Festival of the Sun was an Inca ceremony that was performed on Cusco, the capital of Tawantinsuyo, between the final period of the harvest and the beginning of the vernal equinox of the Andes, ie in the second half of June.

The central ceremony of Inti Raymi is performed on the esplanade of Sacsayhuaman, in which space the stands of appreciation are enabled with capacity for 3,859 spectators, distributed as follows:

11:OO hrs. Auqaypata (Plaza de Armas): The Inca and his royal entourage, enter through the Inti K’ijllu street. Duration 45 minutes.
13:3O hrs. Esplanade of Saqsaywaman: Central Ceremony. Duration 90 minutes.
